Yes exactly! Why can’t AVP be like a Half-Life 2? That would have been more interesting.

I used to play Quake between networked PCs, also Goldeneye vs on the N64, but playing FPS games against randoms online holds no appeal to me. I’d prefer a singleplayer game with a story. That’s why I like games like the Halflife series – it’s not just run’n'gun, but it’s still action-oriented. I guess it was a little optimistic to imagine that the new AVP might be comparable in those terms

I’m glad you understand me. The reason i thought you might like multiplayer is because it takes out any RPG elements and makes it a straight out blood fest where it’s all run’n'gun game play.

When did I say I played multiplayer? Notice that I wrote “I don’t play online either”. I don’t even have a gold account on Live. I like singleplayer – that’s why my favourite two shooters of recent years are Half Life 2 and Bioshock – the RPG elements of the latter, incidently, are the weakest and least enjoyable part of it.

If I’m reading you correctly though I think you’re right: singleplayer is increasingly neglected in FPS. Left 4 Dead is case in point. Roll on HL2 Episode 3

Yes the single player part is but if you like multiplayer then it might not be so bad. I myself am a single player gamer only and have not player multiplayer since Unreal Tournament 1 and Red Faction. Multiplayer has gone down the toilet since then.

Yes BUT this game like all games need to evolve and not just be the same old game play. Gamers want new inovations in games other wise we might as well play games that are 10+ years old and not bother with the new ones. This game is clearly for the multiplayer gamer like yourself and not the single player gamer like me. The single player part was a let down BUT most gamers are getting this game clearly for the multiplayer aspect of the game which is just a shoot fest.

The last thing, the very last thing that I’d want to do would be juggling stats, clicking through tedious dialogue trees, going on fetch-quests – all I want from an Alien game is some guns, a motion sensor, some dark corridors, and a load of beasties lurking in them. That’s literally the whole point – suspense and action.

It could only get better if you add some RPG elements to it like Fallout3 only an AVP version. Come on wheres your sense of adventure man. Change is good.

It seems to me that i owned this game on my pc like almost 10 years ago and the graphics don’t look all that much better even though it’s a new game. You could be all three caracters.

I don’t play online either and since I’ve heard that, amongst other things, singleplayer is disappointing, I haven’t yet bought the game (plus the demo on live is multiplayer only which is really stupid) but really, AVP & the whole Alien franchise is MADE for FPS, not RPGs

Well so am i and i was disapointed by it. I played the single player part of the game so if you like multiplayer you might find it a better game than me as i don’t like multi play because for me it’s the same shit different pile and too repeatative. If they one day make multiplayer interesting again i might be interested in it. If say they made an mmo version of AVP with RPG elements in it like WOW then i might look into it.
