sorry but no.they dont make backward compatible systems because they stopped playing ps3 games and only played ps2 games
Can a playstation 3 be converted to play playstation 2 games?
The Playstation 3 that I have does not play playstation 2 games. Is there a way to get that done.

There is no known way yet. i feel your pain. i had asked this same question. i want to play metal gear solid 2 and 3 on my PS3, but i cant.
The newer models dont have the EMOTION SYSTEM which is the system that allows backwards compatibility in the PS3. Only the old models have it.
So far there is no known way to mod or update a newer PS3 to play PS2 games. I wish there was .
stupid sony got cheap and they couldn’t give you both, so they had to take one away. The newer models have more memory, but because sony is so cheap, they took out the emotion system.
For now, i suggest doing what im doing and play the PS2 for now. Sony will come to their senses or else they are gonna get some serious complaints from MANY people.
