PONGTASTIC! Classic Game Room HD reviews PONG THE NEXT LEVEL for Playstation 1 PS1 from 1999. “Pong is back!” says the packaging, but when did Pong ever leave? NEVER! Pong is with us, always. This relatively recent remake of Pong, published by Atari, is pretty slick but lacks paddle controllers! Pong without paddle controllers is like tennis played with golf clubs. This version of Pong for the PSX has really cool level design and creative power ups but lacks the feeling of old school pong from the arcade machine, Magnavox Odyssey Pong units or Atari 2600 Pong-style games. You NEED paddle controllers to play Pong! Playing pong with the Playstation controller is like drinking beer through a straw… sure it works, but it’s not as good! Aside from that major control issue Pong The Next Level is a solid release with about 20 levels and some unique-new school Pong like features. You can play with up to 4 players using the Playstation multi-tap and find Pong on the PS1 for little or no money today. This game is really meant to be played with friends (or enemies) anyway, so 2 player Pong is the way to go. This CGR review of Pong The Next Level has gameplay from the Playstation 1 Pong release showing Pong game play in HD action.

This is the kind of style game you just don’t see anymore, and I miss it.
I can’t even explain what is has that newer games don’t but it died with the PS1 and the N64.

play this on the pc and use a super sensitive mouse, it’s loads better. Except the PC ver is glitchy.
