As the cartridges, where each company made their labels and names of different games for the government not fining them or even close them.

Yep. There’s a whole movement of homebrew games being made for the 2600 today and continues through the years!

Turns out the patent only held up progress by about 10 years

if not for the Great 2600 we would have to buy a separate game system every time we wanted to play a different game.

@Montecarlo10254 – Exactly! Atari is an American system. Sure, the VCS really is the very first reputable console, so I see where you’re coming from; but it isn’t the first overall. Also remember the US was/is arguably the strongest market for vids, which is why I think the NES deserves more credit, because certain other countries decided to move the game on, pun intended.

Video gaming was still alive and well in other countries, where it only died out here in america.
